Strategy, Management and Health Policy Large pharmaceutical companies have traditionally focused on the development of blockbuster drugs that target disease states with large patient populations. However, with large-scale patent expirations and competition from generics and biosimilars, anemic pipelines, escalating clinical trial costs, and global health-care reform, the blockbuster model has become less viable. Orphan drug initiatives and the incentives accompanied by these have fostered renewed research efforts in the area of rare diseases and have led to the approval of more than 400 orphan products. Despite targeting much smaller patient populations, the revenue-generating potential of orphan drugs has been shown to be huge, with a greater return on investment than non-orphan drugs. The success of these \"niche buster\" therapeutics has led to a renewed interest from \"Big Pharma\" in the rare disease landscape. This article reviews the key drivers for orphan drug research and development, their profitability, and issues surrounding the emergence of large pharmaceutical firms into the orphan drug space.
After its cinematic release was delayed in 2020, it was announced that Netflix would release the exciting South Korean space blockbuster Space Sweepers. We now have official confirmation that Space Sweepers is coming to Netflix in February 2021.
The space blockbuster was originally scheduled to be released in theatres in South Korea in the Summer of 2020, but thanks to the global pandemic Space Sweepers was postponed. It was later revealed that the movie would be released exclusively on Netflix.
Space Sweepers (Korean: 승리호; Hanja: 勝利號; RR: Seungriho; lit. Spaceship Victory) is a 2021 South Korean space Western film directed by Jo Sung-hee, starring Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Seon-kyu and Yoo Hae-jin.[2] Regarded as the first Korean film space blockbuster,[3] it was released directly on Netflix on February 5, 2021.[4][5]
The movie is set in the year 2092 where Earth is uninhabitable. A new orbiting home for humanity is built by UTS corporation, but only the elite are permitted to become citizens while others are left on Earth. The film follows a crew of space sweepers who work for UTS collecting space debris and selling it to the company factory. The crew discovers a child robot named Dorothy who contains a weapon of mass destruction created by the terrorist group Black Fox. They negotiate a ransom for returning Dorothy, but their plan is foiled when UTS soldiers stage a massacre at the club where the exchange was supposed to take place. The crew must navigate this dangerous situation while also dealing with their own personal struggles.
Jo Sung-hee started writing the story 10 years prior to the film's release, after a friend talked to him about the dangers of space junk. He said that \"It started with the idea of space travelers collecting space junk. I heard about how these fast-moving fragments of space debris are growing and leading to in-space collisions. I realized that this subject has already been dealt with in animations and games, but never in a film. I started writing the script wondering how Koreans, who possess a tenacious mentality, would approach this problem.\"[11]
In June 2018, it was reported that Song Joong-ki agreed to star in Jo Sung-hee's next film, making it their second collaboration after A Werewolf Boy (2012).[15] Kim Tae-ri was offered the role of the spaceship captain in January 2019, followed by Jin Seon-kyu for the role of the keeper in April.[16][17] The final lineup was confirmed in June 2019, with Yoo Hae-jin joining the main cast in the form of robotic motion capture and voice acting.[18][19] English actor Richard Armitage also revealed through his Instagram account that he would start filming in July 2019, making Space Sweepers his first Korean film.[20][21]
Axiom had been planning multiple private missions, but the announcement ties the two companies more tightly together as space tourism efforts ramp up. \"A new era in human spaceflight is here,\" said SpaceX president and COO Gwynne Shotwell in an Axiom statement.
\"All four crews will receive combined commercial astronaut training from NASA and SpaceX, with SpaceX providing training on the Falcon 9 launch vehicle and Dragon spacecraft, emergency preparedness training, spacesuit and spacecraft ingress and egress exercises, as well as partial and full simulations,\" said SpaceX in a statement on Wednesday.
SpaceX's space tourism plans were already ambitious. It's working toward sending a group of artists around the moon using the next-gen Starship spacecraft, and it signed on for the Inspiration4 mission, which aims to put \"everyday people\" into orbit on Dragon later this year, though it won't dock with the ISS.
Axiom has bigger ideas than just visiting the ISS. The Axiom Station is a planned privately owned space station that would start life as an attachment to the ISS in 2024 and then detach and operate on its own by 2028. It could become the ultimate space vacation destination.
\"Why do I have to do all the dangerous work\" Fellow space movie geeks, you don't want to miss this one! EonTalk has released an official trailer for a South Korean space epic sci-fi movie called Space Sweepers, being distributed by a studio called Merry Christmas Entertainment (yes, that's seriously the name). Set in 2092, Space Sweepers tells the story of a crew on board of a spaceship called \"Victory\" (or \"The Victory\") trying to escape the destruction of Earth - and make some money while at it. Regarded as the first Korean space blockbuster, it is set to be released in theaters in September this year in Korea (after a delay due to the pandemic). Starring Song Joong-Ki, Kim Tae-Ri, Jin Sun-Kyu, and Yoo Hae-Jin. This looks exciting! The robot is definitely a K-2SO rip-off, but that's fine with me. Because this still seems like a crazy fun, epic, space nerd adventure. And I'm all here for it! Hopefully it doesn't take too long for this to show in America.
Tae-Ho (Song Joong-Ki) is a pilot of Spaceship \"The Victory\", which is led by a captain (Kim Tae-Ri). Tae-Ho will do anything to make money, but he is always broke. Tiger Park (Jin Seon-Kyu) and a robot (Yu Hae-Jin) are crew members of the spaceship. Space Sweepers, originally known as Seungriho in Korean (formerly titled Lightning Arc in development), is directed by Korean filmmaker Sung-hee Jo, director of the films Nice Shorts, End of Animal, A Werewolf Boy, and Phantom Detective previously. The screenplay is written by Yoon Seung-min, Yoo-kang Seo-ae, and Jo Sung-hee. Produced by Bidangil Pictures and Dexter Studios. Merry Christmas will debut Sung-hee Jo's Space Sweepers in Korean cinemas starting September 23rd this fall. No US release has been setup yet - stay tuned for updates. First impression Look any good

You see, back when I was a child, our community had a couple of thriving local video stores that were the source of pretty much endless enjoyment for me. Then Blockbuster came along. By then, the company was already a mega-chain of blue and gold awnings that decorated much of the country. They had inventory that simply could not be matched. Unsurprisingly, they crushed the local video stores.
Through perseverance and technology advancements, the field has enabled the human race to go beyond the skies, the solar system and into deep space exploration using both manned and unmanned missions. The purpose of which is to unravel the mysteries of our universe, and to better understand our place in the cosmos. After several thousand years of research and a gigantic budget, have we explored or conquered space
Based on the various suggestions as to the size of the chemical space23-24, I would propose that empirically it may contain 10180 possible organic and inorganic chemical structures. I would also predict that up to 10% have evolved over billions of years to interact with living matter from bacteria, fungus, worms, scorpions, frogs, dinosaurs, plants to humans. This would leave us with up to 1018 possible chemical structures to explore and synthesise, clearly an unattainable task.
Even with access to the most sophisticated high output chemical synthesis strategies and robotic enabled facilities in the world, simply put this task would also be unattainable. In a recent report, Reymond and Awale predict that by using their exploration strategies including improved compound enumeration, classification and virtual screening schemes, and implementation of chemical synthesis resources, we would have an opportunity to better explore the chemical space (25).
Actually, it does make perfect sense for those companies playing the dangerous game of chasing blockbuster drugs knowing how much they will be worth in the end. A blockbuster drug is defined as the one which achieves revenues of more than $1 billion at global level for its owner per year (27); it is estimated that 125 drugs have met the target sale.
The top 10 best selling drugs in the Unites States alone generated more than $70 billion in sales in 2011 (28-29). Seven of these blockbusters (Table 1) have an origin linking them to products naturally produced by nature including the number one blockbuster of all time, Lipitor, generating more than $125 billion in sales for Pfizer (29). 59ce067264
